Labor Day: What it Means

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

The form that the observance and celebration of Labor Day should take was outlined in the first proposal of the holiday — a street parade to exhibit to the public “the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations” of the community, followed by a festival for the recreation and amusement of the workers and their families.

Celebrate Safely

The American Red Cross regularly puts out safety precautions and as this coming weekend is going to be another hot one, there are additional precautions to consider.

  • Stay hydrated with water
  • If traveling; check on road conditions, buckle up, slow down, and don’t drink and drive
  • Designate a driver who won’t drink or plan on staying where you are celebrating
  • Carry a Disaster Supply Kit
  • Don’t let your vehicle’s gas tank get too low
  • Check with weather alerts before doing any BBQing
  • Grills should only be used outdoors
  • Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing. Avoid dark colors because they absorb the sun’s rays
  • Have outdoor activities and games at a time when it’s not so hot
  • Apply sunscreen before you head out in the sun and reapply as necessary

The Butterflies are Back!

It’s still early in the season but we are witnessing the Monarchs in our garden, enjoying the shade and laying their eggs.

With Monarch Butterflies moving into the endangered species list, we are only allowed to watch as they do their own thing. We hope that Mother Nature is kind and let’s them flourish in our garden without our involvement.

Avoid Late Fees
We know that a lot of customers pay using their banks bill pay feature, but what you may not be aware of is that the bank actually sends us a physical check. We’re seeing more and more that checks scheduled to be here closer to the due date of the 1st of the month are not actually arriving until days after the due date, subjecting you to a late fee of $15 that we will not waive.

You can avoid late fees and convenience fees by getting set up for Auto Pay. Auto Pay through your bank routing information offers you the convenience of posting automatically on the due date. There are no costs associated with it and you’ll never incur another late fee. Fill out the form attached here or call or email Jennifer at the office to get set up before your next payment due date of July 1, 2022. 951-659-2675 or Jennifer@PCWD.org

DO’s and DON’Ts of Water Conservation

Reposted from February 15, 2015

DO wash full loads of laundry and dishes ONLY to spread out wash cycles.

DON’T hand wash your car.  Instead, take it to a car wash, where recycled water is used.

DO look for leaky faucets and running toilets.  Repairing a dripping faucet can save up to 150 gallons of water a week.

DON’T leave the sink running while brushing your teeth.  Install a bathroom sink aerator to slow the flow of water.

DO purchase water saving shower heads.  Or come into our District office, and we will give you a conservation kit for free!

DON’T take long showers.  Keeping showers under 5 minutes can save up to 1000 gallons of water per month.

DO store water in the refrigerator instead of letting the tap run for cool water.

DON’T use the toilet as a waste basket!

DO collect water used to rinse fruit or vegetables, and use to to water your plants, both inside and out. 🙂

DON’T keep water conservation tips to yourself!  Share, share, share!

DO aim to do at least one thing per day to conserve water.

And ALWAYS turn your customer valve off when leaving your mountain home.

Leaks and Frozen Pipes

Temperatures are going to drop again this weekend. If you are leaving your mountain home, be sure to turn off the customer valve and empty all the drains. Leave a faucet open just a crack to make sure there is room for any excess water to come out rather than freeze and bust your pipes. You may want to look into insulating your pipes if they are not already.

We do not forgive water bills for leaks or busted pipes. Any water that runs through the meter will be charged accordingly.

If you don’t know where your customer shut off valve is at the street, please call during normal business hours to waive a service fee and we’ll guide you. If you call after hours, there will be a fee starting at $15. An emergency leak or busted pipe call after hours could incur a fee starting at $50.

If you notice any leaks, call us immediately. Upon confirmation of the leak you could receive a $25 gift card to a restaurant in town.

Regular Office Hours 9am – 4pm 951-659-2675
After Hours Emergency Line 951-294-8282

Oh my, a frozen pipe leak!

Don’t let this be you!
