Disaster Preparedness Checklist

We’re starting to get into our fire season and it’s always a good idea to prepare or freshen up your Go Bag. Talk to family, friends, neighbors and make a plan!  Decide where to meet, where to stay, where you are going. If you have pets plan ahead for them as well and have prepared go bags for them. If you do not have a car, make a plan ahead of time. Ask a friend or a neighbor ahead of time, if you can ride off the hill with them.   If you have a car, keep 1/2 tank of gas in it at all times.  If the power goes out, the stations may not be able to pump gas unless they have a generator and even then they may only be able to take cash payments. Remember, in case of an emergency the number one priority is safety first. Proper advanced preparations can ease the stress of evacuation and help you make sure all the necessities are not left behind or forgotten.

Spring is near!

Spring time is near! The storms have passed, and we are looking at a nice week ahead.  Back to sunshine and 50 degree daytime temps.  While we did get some nice rain this week, the storm did not produce a lot of snow as some may have hoped it would.  We are now in March, and spring is approaching. While there is always a chance we could still get some snow, the possibility seems to be getting slimmer and slimmer as each day passes by.

Although, precipitation this winter has significantly raised the moisture level of dry and dead fuels throughout California, according to Cal Fire’s Southern Operations Unit. Live fuel moisture also has begun to rise. At the lower elevations, grass will begin to sprout soon and continue into June. This is great news, however, we never fully know if Mother Nature will provide us with adequate moisture needed, so it is better to be safe than sorry.  It is always a good practice to conserve water regardless of the situation.  We can never go wrong by using less water any time of the year!

December Billing and Inserts

Hello Residents of Pine Cove!

December billing (due January 5, 2023) is going out this week. If you get emailed bills, you should have already received yours.

This months mailed billing included our Winter Newsletter, Evacuation Checklist, and Property Hardening. Click here to view those items.

The bi-monthly minimum is $77.00 for two month billing period, excluding any water usage. Water usage is billed as follows:
$7.00 per thousand gallons from 0 to 7,500 gallons
$9.00 per thousand gallons from 7,500 to 15,000 gallons
$11.00 per thousand gallons over 15,000

Water bills are mailed around the 1st of the Billing Month (even months). All bills are due and payable by the 1st of the following month (odd months). Any bill not paid by the due date will be termed delinquent and subject to a $15.00 late fee and/or termination. If shut off, a reconnect fee of $75.00 will be charged, in addition to the current amount due, to re-establish service.

There are several ways to pay your bill. ACH Auto Draft is a free service; the payment is automatically taken out of your bank account (filled out form required). You can log on to your account online, and pay with a Visa/Mastercard/Discover, or E-check. To register your account online, you will need your account number, and the Municipality Code which is PineCoveWDCA. Go to www.pcwd.org and click the “Billing” tab and the Payment option link. Next, click on the www.ub-pay.com link and register your account from there. You can come into the office and pay by check, cash, or card (one person at a time). Call with a credit/debit card (Please note that there is a convenience fee of $3.00 per hundred dollars charged if using a credit card). Drop payments thru the slot on the front door or mail a check or money order.

August Billing

August billing is going out this week. If you get emailed bills, you should’ve already received yours.

This months mailed billing includes a notice of Possible Water Conservation Changes, a family friendly Wildfire Readiness event on August 7th, a flyer from the fire department with Wildland Fire Safety for Your Livestock and Pets, as well as an informational brochure from National Weather Service San Diego with helpful information. In case you don’t get the paper mailing, I’ve attached those items here.

Limited Grant Funds Available

Additional resources on the hill include funds from the Mountain Communities Fire Safe Council, to make sure properties in Idyllwild have defensible space around their homes. Funds are brought to you by Riverside County Non-Profit Assistance Fund with special thanks to Inland Empire Community Foundation and the County of Riverside.

They currently have two grants available:
1) General fuels reduction (abatement) programs, available year-round
2) IECF Non-Profit Assistance Fund, one time grant with extremely limited funds available for those that qualify

The limited funds round of fire abatement funding is being reserved for those who need it most in this unprecedented time: our low income, elderly and/or disable full-time residents.

Fire Safety Muster

The Mountain Communities Fire Safe Council is having their third annual Fire Safety Muster on Saturday, April 26, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Idyllwild Community Center Site in the center of town.  This is a very important event because it provides mountain residents with information that they need in order to get ready for the upcoming fire season.

There will be many local and government agencies there to share information with everyone.  One of the featured attractions will be the U.S. Forest Service’s popular K-9 demonstration.  Other agencies will demonstrate activities and safety procedures throughout the day.  The Idyllwild Fire Department will demonstrate an extrication of a person from an automobile and several other fire agencies, including Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department and the Forest Service, will demonstrate hose lays.

MCFSC’s Woodies unit will be present and demonstrate how to split wood safely and some local tree contractors will demonstrate tree cutting.  You will also be able to register your telephone number, including cell phone numbers, with the Emergency Warning System.  If an evacuation were issued during a fire, this system will leave a message on every phone number registered within the affected area.

The Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit has agreed to demonstrate a rescues provide they aren’t called up to do a real rescue as has happened at the last two musters.  Many other participants, including yours truly, the Pine Cove Water District will be on hand with booths full of pertinent information.  Food and beverages will be available on site throughout the day.  So be sure to head on over to the muster and learn more about fire prevention, abatement, water conservation and much more.
