Indoor Visual Leak Detection
Here are a few tips to detect leaks inside your home:
Toilets:
Lift up your tank cover and put a couple drops of food coloring into your tank. Wait for about 15 -20 minutes. If you see the color inside your toilet bowl, you have a leak and your flapper valve is not working as it should. If you do not see any dye, you have a leak proof toilet. A leaky toilet can consume/waste up to 6,000 gallons per month and up to 10 gallons of water waste per hour.
Shower heads, Faucets, and Bathtubs:
Shower heads, faucets, and bathtubs can also leak. Check around your sink, faucets, and shower heads for wet spots, moisture, or a musky smell. The majority of faucet leaks are caused by worn – out washers which are inexpensive parts, however, a plumber, or a specialized tool may be required.
Early leak detection is key to avoid rot, structural damage, mold, and a pricey water bill.
